Welcome to the Vancouver Academy of Ballroom Dance!
If you just wanna dance and learn how to dance the right way, you’ve come to the right place!
Do you have the desire to take your dancing to the “next level” and private classes are too much, but group classes are not enough, at this stage of your dancing? What if you could take the equivalent of a private class in a group-class setting? What if you could train at a level that significantly raises your dance skills with every class you attend? What if you were in a group of dedicated dancers who share your goals of dancing right in every sense ~ a community of “serious” dancers who just wanna dance for the fun of it but want to follow without tripping and lead without stepping on toes?! What if you could learn to dance the same way that dance teachers do ~ learning every aspect of the movements, learning exactly what makes up every dance in a scientific manner ~ because truly, if you could incorporate each aspect perfectly you would dance perfectly!
How would it feel to never doubt if you’re “doing it right” again?!
Dancing is actually a very methodical sport that can be broken down into elements that include dance position, line of dance, direction of dance, foot position, footwork, arm position and styling, rise and fall, amount of turn, sway, count, step number, alignment and CBM (Contra Body Movement). Measure by measure, each step of each dance can be broken down into these elements then put back together with your natural rhythm and styling and brought to spectacular life on the dance floor!
And if you find yourself so inspired, it’s a small step to move from accomplished dancer to dance teacher in the same focused group atmosphere of dedication that includes the love of dancing ~ just for the fun of it ~ in fact, it’s in the same class!
Those who are interested in adding the teacher training element to their dance training pay a small amount more to take the extra training that adds that extra element. Testing and teaching opportunities, as well as exam preparation, are added for these students only.
If you are inspired to add the teacher training to your dance training, know that there has never been a more opportune and exciting time than now to choose a career in ballroom dance. With the popularity of shows like “So You Think You Can Dance?” and “Dancing With The Stars”, and movies like “Take the Lead” and “Shall We Dance?” the ballroom dance industry is flourishing and expanding like never before ~ especially since ballroom dancing is re-emerging as the “new discipline” to know alongside jazz, hip-hop and theatrical dance improv.
With our revolutionary “Ballroom Dance Teacher Training” (BDTT) Program learning to be a dance instructor has never been more simple and systematic which makes being a Ballroom Dance Instructor an excellent career option for anyone – even those with no prior dance experience can be successful dance teachers after completing our training programs.
Yes, you read it right, you can learn to dance while learning to teach too! Either become an accomplished dancer in American Smooth, Rhythm & Night Club Dancing or an accomplished dance teacher!
This program is an amazing tool to take your dancing to new heights – whether you have the desire to teach at this time or not, this training is complete and precise and much more reasonable than the number of private classes that you would require to take you from a “group” student to a “private” student.
Let us show you how!
We’re proud to offer a one-of-a-kind dance education that has never been offered in Vancouver before! Our Ballroom Dance Teacher Training (BDTT) program is based on the work of world renowned ballroom dance teacher, Diane Jarmolow, who formulated this system for teaching American Ballroom Smooth and Rhythm dancing from her over 20 years experience of teaching dancers to be dance instructors. This method of teaching dance is so effective that even seasoned professionals, like Cheryl Burke of Dancing With The Stars, and two world champions have incorporated the BDTT program into their studios!
Graduates of our Ballroom Dance Training program:
Students of our Ballroom Dance Training Program can attend evening classes “full” or part-time. Full-time students attend classes continuously throughout the comprehensive 16-month program, while part-time students register for each dance separately, as their preferences and schedules allow, and can complete the program, if they choose to, at their own pace one dance at a time.
In fact, this is the first time that you can become certified one dance at a time! You do not have to take the entire program of 16 dances to become certified in a dance, unlike other dance organizations require you to do ~ this is unique to DVIDA! Is it your dream to become a teacher certified in just one dance like West Coast Swing, Argentine Tango or Salsa? You CAN take your certification in just one dance now!

Learn to be a Ballroom Dance Teacher on your own terms – you choose when you attend each course in our renowned dance teacher training program.
